Mehndi (Temporary Tattoo)

We regret to inform you that Mehndi is no longer performed at Hidden Gem.

Originally practiced in India, Mehndi was body decoration used at weddings. It can last for up to two weeks, but depends entirely on the person being tattooed. It is not possible to determine just how effective the process will be on each individual. Pakistan and the Middle East, are other countries where this temporary tattooing was, and still is practiced. Because Canada is a multi-cultural society, the practice of Mehndi is becoming popular among other cultures, not only for special occasions, but as an expressive body decoration. Henna leaf is ground and mixed into a paste and left to age for 24 hours. The paste is squeezed through a small cone to create artistic designs. The design is moistened with a lemon/sugar solution and is left on the body for 2 to 4 hours (the longer the time, the darker the tattoo). Another method of application is to spread the henna over a stencil which has been placed over the area of the skin to be tattooed.
